Eagle Mountain – Single Family Residential

Eagle Mountain will remain one of our proudest achievements as a construction company, as it showcases our ability to overcome the challenges of such a difficult site and make the developer’s vision a reality. Matcon Civil personnel, working as part of the development management team, provided development strategy and business planning, as well as design review and development planning input. This collaborative approach allowed the owner to achieve the best overall layout and large savings in rock handling, retaining walls and detention/retention facilities.

Our works included extensive drilling and blasting of native bedrock allowing for proprietary rock wall design providing dramatic retaining structures of over four stories tall; upgrading of existing roadways and utilities; construction of new arterial roads and utilities; construction of a one million gallon reservoir fed by a two kilometer supply main and upgraded booster pump station; and preparation of school-park and commercial development sites.

 

Grant Hill Estates
Single Family Residential

This three-year, one hundred and eight 1-acre lot residential development required extensive site clearing and grading works prior to the installation of 9000 lm of storm and sanitary main and 8000 lm of water main. The development included also included the construction of a water reservoir, water pump station, two sanitary pump stations, a commercial septic field, and all roadworks and landscaping.

 

Angus Drive Water Main

Begun in March 2014, the Angus Drive water main is a 3.5 Km long, 5 foot-diameter main that requires excavation up to 7 metres deep through an existing residential community and several arterial intersections in south Vancouver. Our works on this project include the excavation and installation of the water main as well as street upgrades along the alignment. Due to the importance of the area to local commuter traffic, careful coordination with the City of Vancouver, Vancouver City Police and MetroVancouver is an important ongoing aspect of the project. And because of the complexity of the excavation itself, Matcon has leveraged our participation in this project to include additional training for several of our employees on deep excavation rescue procedures.

 

Farina Road, Abbotsford, BC

This 36-lot single family residential development is Matcon Civil’s most recent project in the Aguston Development area, where Matcon Civil has completed several site servicing projects since 2003.

Matcon Civil’s works included clearing vegetation from the lot, grading and servicing, which included the construction of a 1,100M3 concrete detention tank that will manage rainwater flow, helping to protect this ecologically sensitive area.

 

River District, Vancouver, BC

The River District is Parklane’s award-winning, multi-Phase community re-development of 130 acres on the north arm of the Fraser River in south Vancouver. Over its twenty-year development timeline the River District will grow to include more than 7,000 homes, a community centre, schools, a farmer’s market, daycare, parks, restaurants and shops within five neighborhoods.

Begun in late 2010, Matcon Civil has completed three contracts and is currently 90% complete on our fourth contract, which have encompassed filling, preloading, grading, underground utilities, new road construction, the installation of landscaped medians and widening of and Marine Way, one of Vancouver’s main transportation corridors. As with our other projects that impact arterial corridors, Matcon Civil coordinates closely with the City of Vancouver to ensure our traffic plans minimize impacts to both commuters and local residents.

 

Rivers Edge, Chilliwack BC

Rivers Edge is a four-phase, 43-acre residential development that encompasses a variety of housing options on British Columbia’s Vedder River, an important habitat for many native species including all five species of pacific salmon. With 1,312 feet of waterfront, 3.8-acres of mature trees and several kilometers of interconnected greenways, River’s Edge presents challenges working within and adjacent to sensitive salmon and salmon supporting habitat. Our works encompass all aspects of site preparation including filling, preloading, road construction, the installation of underground utilities and surface works and landscaping.

 

Tsawwassen Shores Residential Community

RAVCON, our partnership with Tsawwassen First Nation Member-owned Raven Contracting, is moving into site preparation for phase two of Tsawwassen Shores, the first residential development to take place on the Tsawwassen First Nation Lands after its historic treaty was signed in 2008. The five-phase Aquilini Investments development, which broke ground in 2012, is part of the 270-acre masterplanned TFN community that includes the Tsawwassen Mills and Tsawwassen Commons commercial developments. Our works encompass all aspects of civil site preparation including filling, preloading, grading, underground utilities, and new road construction. As well, in partnership with Raven and the Tsawwassen First Nation, we provide employment and training opportunities for qualified First Nation individuals as part of our project works.

 

Klahanie / Murray Street 1000 Unit Residential Community

This large, community enhancing project included the reconstruction of a major arterial roadway and required more than 250,000 m3 of site grading and excavation work. Complete with internal road construction and installation of site services, we utilized trenchless pipe technology and cathodic protection of underground piping. Matcon also carried out extensive creek enhancement works, all the while also providing high volume traffic control.
